Life expectancy in Australia, by state -

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has recently released (October 30th) a media release on how the life expectancy gender gap is narrowing, meaning men are living longer!

Australian men grow older than the rest of the world - According to a UN Nations 2015-2022 estimate stated in the media release, Australians "live 10.8 years longer than the world average of 69.7 years".

Average female life expectancy in the world - According to the media release, the global average age for women is 74.3 years. That indicates that Australian women, in general, live up to 10.3 years longer!

Male life expectancy in Australia -

The stats explain that men's life expectancy in 2017 was 80.5 on average. 

A decade before, in 2007, males had the life expectancy of 79.0. That makes 1.5 years of difference, meaning men are living longer lives.

Female life expectancy in Australia -

For women, life expectancy has been over 80 years for past a decade. In 2007, it was 83.7, whereas in 2017 it was 84.6. 

Because the leap in female life expectancy has not increased as much as the men's, this means that the gap between men and women has narrowed.

The data proves that in 2017 the gender gap was of 4.1 years, whereas in 2007 it was 4.7 years. 

Either way, we are all living longer!

Male life expectancy in NSW -

In News South Wales, male life longevity has increased by 1.2 years since 2007, when it was 79.1.

In 2017, the average life expectancy age was 80.3, only 0.2 points from the national average.

Female life expectancy in NSW -

The statistics for women's life longevity in New South Wales are the same as the national stats. 

In 2007, the average was 83.8 (83.7 nationally), whereas in 2017 the average was 84.6 (nationally the same).

Male life expectancy in VIC -

In 2007, Victoria had the second-highest average in life expectancy for males (at 79.5).

In 2017, the number increased to 81.3, which is the highest number of the year across the nation.

Female life expectancy in VIC -

In 2017, women in Victoria had an average 85.0, which was higher than the national average (84.6).

Females and males alike seem to have longer lives in Victoria, so if you're looking to move or retire elsewhere, you might want to consider this state.

Male life expectancy in QLD -

Male Queenslanders' life longevity was on the rise until 2017, where it dropped by 0.1.

In 2007, the average was 78.9, in 2016 it was 80.1 and in 2017 it was 80.0.

Female life expectancy in QLD -

The same pattern occurs with Queensland women, where the average drops in 2017, also by 0.1.

Data in 2007 reveals the average was 83.6, 84.5 in 2016, and 84.4 in 2017.

Male life expectancy in SA -

Like in Queensland, South Australian life expectancy has also taken a hit backwards.

In 2016, the average life expectancy for men was 80.4 of age, whereas in 2017 it was 80.3.

Female life expectancy in SA -

For women in South Australia, however, the average has stayed the same in 2016 and 2017 at 84.5.

Male life expectancy in WA -

Men in Western Australia have had the same life expectancy average in the last couple of years (2016-2017), with an average of 80.3 years of age. 

Although it's been at a standstill in the last few years, a decade ago the average had yet to surpass the 80-year mark (it was 79.2).

Female life expectancy in WA - Life expectancy for women in Western Australia was 84.9 in 2017, and 84.8 in 2016. It was 84.0 in 2007, which shows an increase through the years, although not a big one.

Male life expectancy in TAS -

Tasmania has the lowest life expectancy rate in the nation, even today. 

That said, in 2017, the average age for men was 78.7, which is still an increase from the 77.7 in 2007.

Female life expectancy in TAS -

For women, the rise has been even smaller. 

In 2007, the life expectancy for Tasmanian women was 82.4, which was 0.5 lower than in 2017, at 82.9.

Male life expectancy in NT -

Territorian men have seen the most dramatic change in the last decade, with 3.5 years of difference in average.

Last year (2017), the life expectancy average for males was 75.9, as opposed to 72.5 in 2007.

Female life expectancy in NT -

For women, the average has not changed that drastically.

Life expectancy for Territorian women in 2017 was of 79.4 years, whereas in 2007 it was 78.4.

Male life expectancy in ACT -

The average age for male life expectancy in the Australian Capital Territory has not increased majorly in the last decade.

At 0.8 increase from 2007 (80.3), the average age in 2017 was 81.1.

Female life expectancy in ACT -

In difference to men, women's life expectancy has rise 1.2 years in the last ten years. 

In 2007 the average age for women was 84.0, which is almost as high as the general national rate for women in Australia in 2017 (84.6). 

The latest stats show that in 2017, women lived to 85.2 years of age (in average). 

Quality of life in the capital state seems to be high!
