>'N'Neighbours' made history last week with their first-ever on-screen same-sex wedding. The ceremony was officiated by none other than Magda Szubanski who played the lovable and eccentric wedding celebrant Jemima Davies-Smythe.

In a touching ceremony, Aaron Brennan (Matty Wilson) tied the knot to David Tanaka, played by Takaya Honda in front of their friends and families.

The wedding storyline took place over two episodes, with many people extremely happy that the visible LGBTQI event was happening. In fact, #Neighbours was actually the No. 1 trending hashtag on Twitter during the show’s duration.

It was a dream come true for Szubanski who never dared to imagine this would ever happen. Speaking to News Corp, the comedian said "When me and my gay mates were watching Charlene and Scott get married in 1987, we would never have dreamt there would be a gay wedding on Neighbours.

"It’s really very, very exciting. I hope people will watch these episodes… there’s a lot there for everyone to enjoy to be honest. Having different characters and a diversity of characters breathes new life into storylines.”

This may not be the last we see of Jemima on Ramsay Street. Watch this space...
