Aussie zoos holding twilight gigs this summer -

Both Taronga Zoo and Melbourne Zoo are hosting music gigs throughout this summer to raise money and awareness for wildlife conservation. They weren't wrong when they said: "Good Music For A Good Cause" with local and international artists included in the line-up.

Taronga Zoo - Taronga Zoo is situated in Mossman along Sydney's harbourside, with beautiful views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

2019 American Express Twilight at Taronga Series - Sponsored by American Express, the events begin in early February next year and finish up in March.

Weekends - Over six weekends, Taronga Zoo will play host to 12 artists, closing with a comedy gala featuring the Umbilical Brothers on March 9, 2019.

Acting up - You Am I, Vera Blue, The Paper Kites and Xavier Rudd are among the local line-up, as well as international act Aloe Blacc.

Conservation - Holding the strong belief in humans and animals sharing this planet, Taronga Zoo aims to minimise plastic at each event due to the detrimental effect it has for our oceans.

Concerts with a conscience - Australia loves the ocean, especially with our incredible surf beaches and coral reefs. These concerts aim to bring awareness to the damage marine debris has in the environment.

Plastic footprint - To help reduce the collective plastic footprint in the ocean, Taronga Zoo aims to eliminate single-use plastic.

Packaging - All packaging used at the zoo is either 100% compostable or biodegradable with no single-use plastic.

They also promote the use of reusable water bottles and have water stations available for refills.

Back stage - The zoo is proud to have been single-use plastic-free since 2015, in line with practising what the preach.

Melbourne Zoo - Zoos Victoria is a world-leading non-profit conservation organisation fighting wildlife extinction, and Melbourne Zoo is a big part of that, along with two other zoos.

Zoos Victoria - Werribee Open Range Zoo focuses on conservation of African wildlife. Healesville Sanctuary is a bushland haven for indigenous species, and Melbourne Zoo boasts a world of wildlife.

Summertime - From January to March, there will be performances every weekend by talented local and international acts.

Weekend - Over the span of seven weekends, Melbourne Zoo is hosting at least 23 artists with more artist to be added, including a surprise act for the closing event on March 9.

Music against wildlife extinction - Melbourne's Zoo Twilights series is raising money and awareness to fight the extinction of a specific small indigenous marsupial in Victoria.

Perameles gunnii - A subspecies of the Eastern barred bandicoot has already been classified as extinct and, through these events, the zoo aims to prevent their complete extinction.

Eastern Barred Bandicoot Recovery Team - With help, a complex breeding and re-population program might secure these small and shy species back to the wilds of Victoria.

Bandicoot bodyguards - The zoo is also trialling guardian dogs to protect native Eastern barred bandicoots once they return to the wild.

Ticket proceeds - With the purchase of each ticket, proceeds will go towards helping fight the extinction of the cute endangered marsupial.

Sensation - Local artists including Client Liaison, Sampa the Great with REMI, and The Cat Empire will be performing, as well as international acts Hanson and The Internet.

Mali the elephant - Born at Melbourne Zoo via artificial insemination, Mali was the first of her kind to be born in Australia.

She turned eight this year. Keep an ear out for this elephant tooting along to the tunes.

Vera Blue - This Aussie artist will be playing gigs for both of the series. Vera Blue will be performing at Melbourne Zoo on February 8 supported by Kesmar, and at Taronga Zoo on March 8.

Aloe Blacc - American artist Aloe Blacc will also be playing both series. He will be performing at Taronga Zoo on February 21 and at Melbourne Zoo on February 22 supported by local artist Kaiit.
