Emmy-winning sound mixer James M. Emswiller fell two stories from a balcony while taking a smoke break on Thursday, October 11.
He suffered a medical emergency when he fell over at the apartment building where the upcoming movie 'Mr. Rogers,' featuring Tom Hanks, was shooting. Emswiller was rushed to UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition. By Friday morning it was announced the man in his 60s was dead.
Production halted and Sony Pictures released the following statement: "This is a devastating tragedy and the studio is investigating the matter. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim’s loved ones, friends, and colleagues.”
Some of the crew member's most notable work included the HBO film 'Bessie,' starring Queen Latifah, 'The Avengers,' 'Foxcatcher,' and 'The Fault in Our Stars.'
'Mr. Rogers' is set to be released next October.
