Balmain Colliery, 1900 -

The coal mine in Birchgrove, NSW had three separate incidents. The first was in 1900 when six miners died after a malfunction sent them falling through the shaft to the bottom of the mine.

1932 -

When attempting to close the mine, the device called a bore that was being lowered into the shaft punctured a gas canister and two miners were killed in the explosion.

When attempting to seal the mine once and for all in 1945, a test caused an explosion which killed the company manager and two men.

Mount Kembla -

In NSW's Illawarra District, 96 men and boys were killed following an explosion at the Mount Kembla Mine in 1902.

Moura, 1975 - There have been four fatal accidents at the Moura, QLD mine. In a 1975 disaster 13 men died, in a 1986 explosion that was possibly preventable, 12 men died, in 1994 two men were killed in one explosion while another 11 were killed in a separate incident in the same year.

In WA, a wall collapsed in the Bronzewing Gold Mine and the miners that were trapped spent a month underground before they were rescued.
