In news that would anger even the calmest of gods, a Thor replica hammer was stolen from Mjølner Melbourne, a Viking bar, leading the police to issue a hilarious statement:
“The hammer which ‘emits mystical blasts of energy’ is crucial to Thor’s super hero powers, so police are keen to locate it… Unfortunately, Thor himself is currently in Byron Bay and unavailable to assist with tracking down the villains.”
However, never fear, the gods were smiling down upon the bar, as the prize hammer was located at Melbourne Airport the next morning. A Perth man handed himself in to his local police station and the matter is being dealt with. However the man in question is not named Loki.
Police have since updated their Thor related statement: "'I must go back to Asgard, but I give you my word – I will return for you,' Thor said. Well Thor did not come back, but police have located a missing whisky decanter in the shape of his famous hammer – Mjolnir. Investigators were told two men attended a Hardware Street venue earlier on Saturday night and had a couple of drinks. It is believed they later returned in a group of five and left with the hammer shortly after 2.50am."
Mjölnir is depicted in Norse mythology as one of the most fearsome and powerful weapons in existence, capable of levelling mountains. The bar's hammer, whilst not quite a mountain flattener, doubles as an epic whisky decanter and is the Viking-themed cocktail bar’s most prized possession.
All's well that ends well, and just remember folks—Mjölnir will always return to its rightful owner.
