HEALTH Swimming pool

Going for a relaxing swim during your vacation can be a wonderful experience, but what if we told you the pool is heavily infected due to feces? According to the CDC, thousands of people become sick due to water containing dirty bacteria, parasites and diarrhea every year.

Between the year 2000 and 2014, more than 27,000 people became sick from swimming in pool water. Eight people even died due to illnesses they contracted. Most of these infections are found in swimming pools and hot tubs. Water parks also pose a risk.

Cryptosporidium, a diarrhea-inducing parasite, was responsible for 58% of all infections. People can get infected due to two simple reasons: users of the hotel swimming pool suffer from diarrhea and the pools aren’t properly cleaned. Other dangerous bacteria can also be present, causing various issues such as skin rashes and ear infections.

So should you say farewell to public swimming pools and stick to the ocean for the rest of your life? That’s all up to you. However, people with a weak immune system should consider avoiding them or ask the staff for a quality assurance.
