HEALTH Face wash

Most people's daily skin regimens are full of products. Cleaning your skin twice a day and following up with toners, moisturizers, and oils often means your face is continuously stripped or coated in product. Is that necessarily healthy?

That squeaky-clean feeling that you get after using a facial scrub or cleanser may be a sign of over-drying or irritation, according to Vogue.

Who came up with the notion that we have to wash our faces twice a day? Well, the beauty product industry did. When consumers see commercials where women wake up to the newest, fruitiest smelling face wash, it becomes commonplace. However, when you strip your face of natural oils this often, your skin gets used to constant drying, which may have long-term effects.

Dermatologist, Dr. Terrence Keaney warns that, "When you wash your face, the soap or cleanser that you're using not only strips away the oil and sweat, but also strips away some of the natural lipids in the skin, so it can be potentially irritating," according to Clark.com. "I'm always cautious and try to prevent people from over-cleansing."

When it comes to what it really means to be clean, questioning the commercials may be something to consider. Besides, no one looks that graceful splashing water on their face anyways.
