In the wake of rumors that Netflix would be taking 'Friends' down in 2019, the hopes of a revival was again thrown around, and Jennifer Aniston has been the most vocal about getting the band back together. Unfortunately, it's not going to happen, and it's because of three beloved people: Joey, Chandler, and Ross.
On the 'Late Late Show with James Corden,' Aniston explained that Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer are reluctant to revive the iconic sitcom, which finished in 2004.
“Listen, the girls always say we would love to do it again, and the boys are a little less excited about it for some reason—I don’t know,” she said.
Earlier this year, NME reports that LeBlanc gave a little more insight to his reluctance: “I understand that people really want to see that reunion,” he said, “but that show was about a finite period in those characters lives, between 20 and 30.”
The actor argued that people's imaginations of what the characters are up to will always beat any kind of scripted revival. Though that might be debatable, he has a point when he says, “I don’t think anyone wants to see Joey at his colonoscopy. I think it’s better for people to just leave it.”
If your heart is breaking at the news, Aniston provided a more than satisfactory replacement, since the girls are onboard with a reunion. "We’ve decided that we’ll just do … a remake of 'The Golden Girls' in 40 years." Instead of reviving Blanche, Rose, and Dorothy, however, the show would be Phoebe, Rachel, and Monica.
And if even that is not enough, then take solace in the news that Netflix recently announced they will not, in fact, be taking 'Friends' off their streaming service. The pure fan fury at the prospect drove them to reportedly spend $100 million to keep the show on, for all your binge-watching needs.
