Rihanna was offered one of the most coveted gigs and opportunities in the music industry — a chance to perform at the Super Bowl LIII Halftime show. Surprisingly, the pop star said no.

Rihanna has taken a firm stance against the NFL and their position and handling of the national anthem kneeling controversy. She also supports the frontman of it all, former NFL-er Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick caused an uproar when he began to kneel in 2016 during the national anthem at the start of games. He did so to protest racial injustices across the country. Since his departure from his former team, the 49ers, he has filed a grievance against the NFL claiming that they have blackballed him from the league due to his polarizing political behaviour on the field.

Although no official announcement has been made, rumoured performers for the big show and sporting event instead of RiRi are Maroon 5 and rapper Cardi B.

Campo obrigatório
