32 Aussie women who are legendary multi-code athletes -

Australia loves sports, but these sportswomen don't always get the recognition they deserve. As sporting codes remain in the semi-professional league for women it is difficult to make it work in just one field.

Here are 32 of Australia's incredible female athletes thriving in multiple sporting codes.

Erin Phillips - By 2016, Phillips had won two WNBA championships and brought home medals from the Olympics and World Championships.

She went from basketball to footy for the inaugural AFL Women's season in 2017, being named the AFLW's first ever MVP.

Nova Peris - During the 1996 Olympics, Peris became the first Aboriginal Australian to win the gold in women's hockey.

Moving on to athletics, Peris became successful on the track bringing home gold medals from the Commonwealth Games in 1998.

Ebony-Rose Antonio - The national championship basketballer was drafted in to the AFL after only playing three games in 2015. She is now a senior player with AFLW Fremantle.

Ash Barty - WTA tour title-winner, Barty swapped her racquet for a cricket bat in 2014-2016. She signed with the Brisbane Heat for the inaugural Women's Big Bash League. She returned to winning titles in tennis shortly after.

Ash Brazill - Having played for Collingwood Magpies in netball, it was only fitting that when Brazill moved over to AFLW in 2017 she would be on the Aussie rule teams of the same name.

Kirby Bentley - Indigenous sportswoman, Bentley moved from netball to Aussie rules football in 2009 after family tragedy struck.

By 2014 she had become one of the best female footy players and the Kirby Bentley Cup was established to empower young indigenous girls in footy.

Jessica Cameron - This Ashes winner dropped her bat in 2015 to play football. And when AFLW's inaugural game in 2017 came around she played for Collingwood Magpies.

Charlotte Caslick - Caslick is a dual Olympic representative, having played rugby union, touch football and Rugby Sevens.

Emilee Cherry - Similar to Caslick, Cherry has represented Australia in Rugby Union, Sevens and touch football. She even took home the gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Ellie Cole - By 2006 Cole was an international S9 swimming gold medalist. And in 2013, she played on the national women's wheelchair basketball league.

Recently she won two gold medals for swimming in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Alexandra Croak - This dual Olympic representative is an Australian diver and gymnast, having competed in both disciplines, Croak won gold medals in both during the 2008 Olympics.

Chloe Dalton - Having played for WNBL in Sydney before heading to the 2016 Olympics to represent Australia in rugby union, Dalton is now focusing on Aussie rules, and maybe even a AFLW career.

Brianna Davey - Davey represented Australia in soccer in 2015, but in 2016 moved over to AFLW to play in the inaugural 2017 game. She is now the captain for the Carlton AFWL team.

Jessica Gallagher - A true multi-code legend is Paralympian Gallagher, who has represented Australia in alpine skiing, athletics and tandem cycling at summer and winter Paralympics.

Ellia Green - Starting out in athletics as a teen, Green won junior world championships. But after driving her cousin to a Rugby Sevens try-out she decided to give it a go.

Months later she was touring with the national team, and even won gold at the 2016 Olympics.

Amber Halliday - As a dual Olympian, Halliday represented Australia in cycling and rowing.

Alyssa Healy - In 2010 and 2011, Healy represented NSW in their U21 hockey team. She now focuses most of her time on her successful cricketing career representing Australia.

Emma Kearney - In 2016, Kearney was involved with Victoria state cricket and AFLW's Western Bulldogs, at which time she spoke out about the semi-professional nature of the sports industry. She won the 2018 AFLW's best and fairest.

Having played cricket in the Women's Big Bash League, Lamb moved onto AFLW in 2017 playing for the Western Bulldogs.

Meg Lanning - The captain of Australia's women's national cricket team for all of her amazing achievements, Lanning still plays hockey in the women's Premier League when she isn't busy with cricket.

Jenna McCormick - Starting her football career in soccer with Brisbane Roar in the W-League, McCormick later joined the Adelaide FC in AFLW and is currently playing for both teams.

Tiana Penitani - Penitani was a champion in athletics, particularly in sprint and hurdles. In Russia for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens she became the youngest Aussie representative at a World Cup.

Ellyse Perry - In 2007, at age 16, Perry represented Australia in cricket and soccer, just a month apart. She continued to play both sports until 2014 when she was unable to commit to both sports and stuck successfully with cricket.

Jana Pittman - Pittman dominated in athletics, especially track and field, bringing home many gold medals from 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games.

After an injury, Pittman turned to the sport of bobsleigh, where she and her partner came in 14th during the Beijing Olympics.
