CELEBRITY Gene simmons

Legendary rock 'n' roller Gene Simmons is known for his extreme face paint, wild performances, and infamous sexism. Throughout his career, Simmons has bragged about sleeping with over 5,000 women, and even told a female reporter to "welcome him with open legs."

However the singer and bassist issued a formal apology for his past behaviour and actions towards women while on an Andrew Denton's 'Interview' on Tuesday night.

"Look, for 29 years I did what you could imagine guys in bands do," Simmons said in an interview with Denton. "There's no excuse for that kind of language, not from me not from anybody else. But you also have to recognise - and this is not a defence just the observation - it was a different time… the more arrogant and sexist you were, the cooler you were to your fans. Now of course somebody else might take offence to that. The times were wrong, I was completely wrong… what can I say? I've made lots of mistakes… it's time all of us sort of woke up and I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been an arrogant, you know, sexist pig.”

Gene Simmons, nicknamed The Demon, co-founded the iconic rock band KISS, and has sold over 75 million albums throughout his career. Check out Simmons's full interview with Andrew Denton on YouTube here.
