Success - 'Gurrumul' is a moving documentary about Australia's most successful indigenous musician, created by Paul Williams.

Five years - The film took five years to film. It was approved by Gurrumul just three days before his death last July, according to news.com.au.

Chronicles - It chronicles the indigenous artist's life, including the making of his latest album, 'Djarimirri'.

Michael Hohner - Hohner was not only Gurrumul's producer, but also his long-time friend. He co-produced the documentary alongside Gurrumul and manager Mark Grose.

Elcho Island - Gurrumul was born blind on Elcho Island. According to Aboriginal Art Directory, his family believed he would "live a sadly dependent life."

Childhood - The documentary portrays Gurrumul's life growing up on Elcho Island, the closeness of his clan, and their way of life. An SMH reviewer stated they "felt the film in [their] bones".

40,000 years - The film documents the traditional songs and dances of the Yolgnu people, some almost 40,000 years old, which Gurrumul incorporated into his music.

Blind - The film features flashes of black to allow the viewer to try to understand what it is like to be blind, how Gurrumul interprets the world.

Singing - Gurrumul sang mostly in the indigenous languages of the Gumatj, Galpu, and Djambarrpuyngu people.

Multi-talented - He taught himself how to play a right-handed guitar upside-down (he was left-handed), drums, keyboard, and didgeridoo. But he was best known for his golden voice.

Front-man - Gurrumul joined his uncle Mandawuy Yunupingu in the band Yothu Yindi during their most successful period. He was on percussion, keyboard, and guitar.

Yothu Yindi - During this time there were political developments including a symbolic treaty over aboriginal land rights. Yothu Yindi wrote the song 'Treaty' featuring Paul Kelly and Peter Garrett.

Awards - Yothu Yindi's success won them many awards and they championed awareness of aboriginal rights and culture. In 2012 they were welcomed into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

Connection - The film explores how important it is for the Yolgnu people to connect with the land.

Saltwater Band - Gurrumual became the frontman, singer/songwriter, and guitarist for Saltwater Band, "re-interpreting and presenting traditional songs of the Gumatj clan in classical ballad format," according to Bandcamp.

Solo - After his many successes with Yothu Yindi and Saltwater Band, Gurrumul went solo.

Elton John - When Elton John performed in NT, Gurrumul was the opening act. According to NT News, “Gurrumul’s favourite song is Crocodile Rock because his dreaming is Baru (Crocodile).”

Big names - Gurrumul has performed for some big names, including Queen Elizabeth II and Barack Obama.

Sting - Gurrumul performed with Sting in Paris. Hohner said he joked about singing "I'll be watching you".

Priorities - The documentary shows Gurrumal attending a relative's initiation ceremony on Elcho Island instead of going on tour, showing where his priorities lay.

Quiet - The documentary begins with Gurrumul staying completely silent during an interview. He always left the talking to Hohnen, not wanting to be quoted.

ARIA awards - Gurrumul received six ARIA awards for his music. He was also awarded 2009 NT Australian of the Year and 2016 NAIDOC Artist of the year.

Djarimirri - "Djarimirri" means "Child of the Rainbow". Gurrumul's last album was the first indigenous-language release to hit number one on Australia's ARIA album charts.
