What foods do Aussies spend their money on the most? -

Ever wondered what the average Aussie spends on food? Australian Bureau of Statistics's report explains the average yearly amount that Aussies spend on food (eating out, fast food, deliveries, and groceries).

Government pensions and allowances: Eating out and fast food - According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics data for 2015/16, those living off pensions or other governmental allowances spend an average of $679 a year eating at restaurants and fast food chains.

Government pensions and allowances: Meat, fish, and seafood - Pensioners spend $595 (on average) on fish, poultry, seafood, or other kinds of meat.

Government pensions and allowances: Fruit and vegetables - They reportedly spend around $550 a year on fresh produce.

Government pensions and allowances: Condiments, confectionery, etc. - Those living off governmental pensions and allowances tend to spend roughly $480 on sauces, spices, pickles, and so on.

Government pensions and allowances: Bakery products, flour, cereals - Think baking goods, delicious cakes, as well as all the necessary ingredients to make them. Pensioners spend near to $377 on those types of groceries.

Government pensions and allowances: Non-alcoholic drinks - People who live off pensions and/or other allowances tend to spend approximately $260 on drinks—that does not count alcohol.

Government pensions and allowances: Dairy products - For groceries such as milk, cheese, ice cream and all things dairy, pensioners seem to spend an average of $298 on them per year.

Government pensions and allowances: Other food - Foods like eggs, nuts, seeds, and speciality foods, (and all the other foods that don't cut the list for the other categories) make up the 'other food' category. Pensioners reportedly spend around $263 on 'other food'.

Employee income: Eating out and fast food - According to the same data, people who are employed and earn a monthly income spend somewhere close to $1,819 eating out in restaurants, junk food, and take away per year.

Employee income: Meat, fish, and seafood - Reportedly employed individuals spend an average of $635 on protein such as fish, seafood, meat, chicken, turkey, and so on.

Employee income: Fruit and vegetables - Out of the monthly grocery cost, around $582 go on fruit and vegetables.

Employee income: Condiments, confectionery, etc. - People working towards a monthly salary spend approximately $515 on confectionery and condiments, according to the bureau's data.

Employee income: Bakery products, flour, cereals - When it comes to baked goods such as bread, cakes, biscuits, and the ingredients to make them, employed individuals spend roughly $394 on them.

Employee income: Non-alcoholic drinks - People who receive a monthly salary spend around $309 on drinks. That's not counting alcohol (that would be quite a bit more, we assume).

Employee income: Dairy products - An average of $294 (of an employed person's salary) goes on cheese, milk, ice cream, butter, and more cheese. Because who doesn't like cheese? Vegans! Vegans don't like cheese. But apart from them...

As for the rest of the shopping list, the bureau suggests employed Aussies spend around $409 on 'other food'.

Own unincorporated business income: Eating out and fast food - According to the report, business owners spend close to $1,503 a year on eating out, take-aways, and order-ins.

Own unincorporated business income: Meat, fish, and seafood - Company proprietors reportedly spend an average of $701 on meat, fish, and seafood.

Own unincorporated business income: Fruit and vegetables - The data reports that $664 on their income goes on fresh produce such as fruits, berries, vegetables, and legumes.

Own unincorporated business income: Condiments, confectionery, etc. - When it comes to condiments and all things confectionery, business owners spend $511.

Other private income: Eating out and fast food - Those who work for the private sector and get a private income eat out a lot! Allegedly they spend an average of $1,926 a year on restaurants, take-aways, and food deliveries.

Other private income: Meat, fish, and seafood - The yearly average for them to buy meat, fish, and seafood comes to $873.
