Flat White - The humble, yet definitive Flat White was first documented in 1985 in Sydney.

Winner - Australia has a strong coffee culture developing from independent cafes. We have even won the world barista championship four times since it began in 2000.

Neenish tart - Neenish tarts have no documented origin, although in 1901 the recipe for neenish tarts was published in The Sydney Mail.

Snot Block - Originally a vanilla slice, these sweet pastries are derived from French mille-feuille. But Australia has surely made it there own by taking away the 'thousand layers', and adding more custard.

Jaffle - The jaffle-maker, and therefore the resulting delicious jaffle, was invented in 1949.

Balfour’s frog cakes -

Born in SA, Balfour’s frog cakes originated in Balfour’s Bakeries in 1922. Later becoming a South Australian Icon in 2001.

Twisties - These chip alternatives went on the market in 1950. They were popular with their ad slogan 'Life's pretty straight without Twisties'.

Cask wine - It's no surprise goon was an Aussie invention. It was convenient and successful when it was first on the market, and has continued over time.

Wine in a can - However, wine in a can has been less successful. In 1996 Barokes Wines released a selection of canned wines, and although it was convenient it was received with less enthusiasm.

Choc-top - A classic cinema snack favourite is the choc-top. It originated in Australia and is still going strong today.

Weet Bix - Before the UK's Weetabix, we had Weet-Bix. Mind you they were created by the same person, Bennison Osborne.

Milo - Originating in Australia in 1934, Milo has been the go-to chocolate and malt milk drink since childhood.

Jaffa - The chocolate tasties with their orange-flavoured shell were invented in 1931. Inspired by the UK's Jaffa cakes, which in turn used Jaffa oranges.

Freakshakes - As suggested in the name, freakshakes are milkshakes of monster proportions, including a ridiculous amount of toppings.

Tiny Teddy - These fun children's biscuits were launched in 1990, and have been a lunchbox staple since. They are the miniature version on biscuits that were invented in Australia during the 1920s.

Easter Bilby - The Easter Bilby joined the public consciousness Easter of 1991 in Australia, swapping the introduced rabbit for the native marsupial.

No more rabbits - Nicholas Newland from 'Foundation for Rabbit-Free Australia' developed the idea to raise awareness about the environmental damage of feral rabbits.

Nutella donut - Donuts aren't an Aussie invention, but hot jam donuts are a staple and a classic. And during our obsession with Nutella in 2015 our donut innovations led to one of the best inventions of all.

Darrell Lea's Soft Eating Liqorice - Again, liquorice is not an Aussie original, but Darrell Lea truly changed the national confectionery game when it invented a recipe for soft liquorice, and also invented their staple Rocklea Road slice.
